Popular London Paper to go free!

One of the popular London newspapers, the London Evening Standard is now going to be free to citizens. Around 600,000 of the newspapers costing 50p each are going to be given out free in London from 12th September.

The current circulation is around 250,000. This move comes about after Russian billionaire Alexander Lebedev taking control of the standard from daily Mail-owner associated newspapers in January. A rival, the London Lite paper was already free, though that paper ceased publication. The general idea was that the Lite paper which had a circulation of around 400,000 would merge with another newspaper, leaving just one paper left in London.
